A single-herb liquid extract of dried rhizome of Arisaema amurense, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

This is one of the plants that changes sex. An Arisaema corm that had a good year stores enough to produce female flowers and set fruit; a corm that had a poor year produces male flowers instead, which cost far less to make, and it can switch back the following season. The flower is the hooded spathe familiar from jack-in-the-pulpit, wrapped around a club-shaped spadix. The rhizome is used only after processing — see the warnings.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This is the processed (zhi) form of the root, and only the processed form is usable. Raw Arisaema contains needle-like calcium oxalate crystals that cause severe burning and swelling of the mouth and throat. Do not exceed the suggested amount, and do not use during pregnancy. Best used under the guidance of a practitioner trained in Chinese herbal medicine.
